Schwartzman on iPad

You have to watch Jason Schwartzman's hysterical video for the New Yorker iPad application. Mobile tablets are a good idea for many reasons, including avoiding blindness from smartphone overuse. And to keep up with all the new publications for iPad, like News Corp's  The Daily, the new mobile "newspaper" from my bosses. Not to mention Barron's swell iPad app.

Midwest Farmland

"If someone were to say to me give me your best [investing] idea that most people are not fully aware of, I would say ... go look at farmland in the Midwest, which was $4,000 an acre a few years ago and now it is $5,500 an acre," said Barry Rithotz in Barron's Online on October 26. He's CEO and stock research director at Fusion IQ, a New York money management firm. The breadbasket -- the cornmeal basket anyway -- is back in vogue.

iPhone Greek

Barron's Writer Eric Savitz just blogged a tidbit that will make Hellenes happy the world over: the iPhone 3.0 software available later this month will support Greek ... along with Hebrew, Arabic, Korean and Thai. Barron's on Burkas

A great line from Alan Abelson's October 15 column in Barron's magazine: "As someone who has known him for many years, we can swear on a stack of Bibles or Korans that Rudy Giuliani is not a Muslim. And proof positive is that despite a well-publicized affinity for occasionally prancing about in female dress, he has never -- not once -- worn a burka!"
